Before joining here, Nick was a copywriter at McGarrah Jessee in Austin, Texas, where he worked with brands like Whataburger, Costa Sunglasses, and YETI. Prior to that, he worked in journalism at Austin’s NPR affiliate, KUT Austin. There, he helped to write, produce, record, edit and mix stories for both web and radio.

In the past, Tate interned at Washington Business Journal, where she published over 40 articles about news and leaders in the metropolitan area. She also developed social media content to support events and activities for Washington and Lee University’s Career & Professional Development Office and WLUR radio station in Lexington, Virginia.

Kendall brings six years of marketing agency experience to the team at Subject Matter. In her role, she oversees ongoing projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget, while also managing day-to-day clients relations and communication. Before joining the team, Kendall worked as a senior account executive at LM Marketing Group, where she produced lead-generating integrated marketing campaigns for clients nationwide. Prior to that, she worked as an account executive at Wallace & Company for three years.

Before joining the team, Elizabeth worked at Jackson & Campbell, P.C., where she provided marketing and communications expertise and support for two years. Prior to that, she worked as a consultant at Duty First Consulting, supporting the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the Veterans Health Administration. In the past, Elizabeth has also worked at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Metropolitan D.C. Chapter, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, and Catholic Charities of Central Texas/Jesuit Volunteer Corps.

Prior to this, she worked as a research assistant at the Children’s Digital Media Center at Georgetown University, where she collaborated with lead faculty and students to analyze successful early childhood learning outcomes from interactions with intelligent technologies.

As an integrated communications and marketing specialist, Jon helps corporations and trade associations raise awareness and shape the tenor of conversations to reach desired policy, corporate and organizational brand reputation outcomes. He has more than a decade of experience with leveraging paid, earned and social communications in both product and issue promotion for clients ranging from national trade associations to corporate brands. Prior to joining Subject Matter, Jon oversaw strategy development at FleishmanHillard’s TogoRun, as well as grassroots marketing at Burson Marsteller’s Direct Impact and America’s Health Insurance Plans.

Prior to that, she was a digital strategist at Mothership Strategies, where she designed and implemented high impact campaigns for progressive advocacy organizations, political candidates, and members of Congress.

Prior to that, she worked for Elucid Solutions, a small agency based in Bethesda, Maryland.

Bill Ghent has more than 25 years of media, legislative, and political experience in Washington, D.C. For more than eight years, Bill covered news on the Hill, reporting on everything from energy and environmental policy to budget and tax issues. After learning the ins and outs of Congress, Bill entered politics as the communications director for Sen. Tom Carper, a member of the Finance, Environment and Public Works and Homeland Security and Government Affairs committees. Over time, he rose in ranks to become the senator’s legislative director and, later, his chief of staff. While chief, Bill helped to pass one of the few legislative fixes to the Affordable Care Act, while also spearheading, in coordination with the White House and USTR, the passage of the Trade Promotion Act in 2015. In 2009, Bill started the Moderate Democratic Working Group in the Senate, which coordinated policy and legislative strategy among the various Democratic offices, while acting as a bridge to senior congressional leadership and outside political groups. He also served as the Democratic head of the Bipartisan Legislative Directors network. On the political side, Bill oversaw the senator’s 2018 re-election and managed his PAC fundraising and spending.

Matt Trojan has extensive experience serving as a senior strategic communications adviser for political organizations including the DCCC and DSCC, as well as for various candidates, elected officials, and issue-advocacy groups. In fact, he worked on 9 different federal and statewide political campaigns in the span of 15 years, including Heidi Heitkamp for U.S. Senate and Colin Van Ostern for New Hampshire Governor. Matt comes to Subject Matter from Deloitte, where he managed and executed multi-faceted strategic communications plans for several high-value federal government clients.

Laura Adams brings nearly two decades of experience in print and video production to Subject Matter. Prior to joining the team, she worked as a freelance producer in the D.C. area, developing creative content for clients including NPR, Discovery Education, and AARP. Before that, she spent 14 years at Discovery Communications, where she edited and managed multimedia productions for Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet and Velocity.

Jenna is a member of Society for News Design, AIGA, and a volunteer at Bright Beginnings D.C., a nonprofit that cares for and entertains kids 0-4 experiencing homelessness.

Prior to joining the team, Julie spent six years at Anthology Marketing Group in Hawaii, most recently as a senior art director. In her role, she worked on integrated campaigns for clients like Hawaiian Airlines, Hawaii Pacific Health, and Hawaii Gas. Before that, she was a senior graphic designer at OST, Inc. in Washington, D.C, where she worked for six years. Julie is also the founder of Aloha Lovely, a project she started in 2016 as a creative outlet that has since become a place to inspire other women to discover and pursue their own passions and live their lives to the fullest.

Madeline’s passion and understanding of the intersection between communications, policy, and advocacy makes her the perfect fit for Subject Matter. Prior to joining the team, she was an intern for the Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee in the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. There, she did in depth research on key policy issues, drafted social media and official correspondence, and aided in official subcommittee hearing proceedings. In the past, Madeline served as a congressional intern for Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), and as a field intern for Let America Vote. She is currently the youngest serving board member of the BA Women’s Alliance, a D.C. nonprofit that supports the professional development of young women.

Kyle brings his passion for connecting with consumers and 15 years of advertising experience to the team at Subject Matter. Most recently, Kyle was the director of Brand and Media Strategy for Verizon Connect in Atlanta, leading brand positioning, marketing and media planning. Prior to that, he spent more than nine years leading Account teams for FCB and HackerAgency, where he worked with clients like Uber, AT&T, EmblemHealth, Cricket Wireless, Carnival Cruise Lines, and the University of Washington School of Business. Kyle also spent time in client services with Macy's in-house agency, where he worked with Jeff Gennette, CEO of Macy's. He’s adept at leading cross-functional teams and enjoys getting his hands on data to find the right consumers for any given campaign.

From college basketball to automotive sales to government, Joe brings his diverse industry experience and video/animation expertise to the Subject Matter team. Joe started his career as video coordinator for the University of Colorado Women’s Basketball team, and then moved on to serve as director of video for the University of Maryland Women’s Basketball team. After that, he was a motion graphics designer at Team Velocity Marketing, where he created and animated visual elements for television, pre-roll and web video advertisements. Most recently, Joe worked at Reingold, Inc. as a video animator, where he focused on television, web and social media video advertisements.

Chris Pappas (D-NH), where he drafted constituent letters, compiled news clips and operated the front office. Before that, he had worked as a field organizer for Rep. Andy Kim’s (D-NJ) congressional campaign, press intern for Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE) and press intern for the Center for American Progress.

Before joining Subject Matter, Robin racked up an impressive range of experiences interning with a number of private sector public relations firms, including MGH Inc. and Maroon PR in Baltimore. Most recently, she interned with the City of Tuscaloosa in Alabama, where she handled social media content and media relations for the Mayor’s office.

His work has been highlighted at the National Geographic Short Film Showcase, Washington West Film Festival and by Smithsonian Magazine.

Amanda knows what it takes to get the job done—whatever that job may be. She’s a fast learner who is always ready – and quick – to contribute, whether it’s helping clients directly or supporting her team so that they can meet those needs. Most recently, she served as a Corporate Communications & External Affairs Assistant at the Carlyle Group, providing media, branding, and organizational support in the form of daily newsletters, social media content creation, and media outreach. At Aberdeen Standard Investments as Presentation Executive, Amanda led the Boston presentation team in producing highly customized client/prospect decks, creating a product to reflect the company and maintain industry and creative standards. In other previous stints, Amanda’s responsibilities have also included managing all the administrative aspects of an office.

Patrick began his career as digital communications director for Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK), directing online strategy and communications for both the senator’s Washington office as well as his re-election campaign. He transitioned to Levick Strategic Communications, a reputation management and strategic public affairs firm in Washington, D.C., where he led digital and social programs. Most recently, Patrick served as executive vice president and managing director at BCW, which focused on integrating communications campaigns, crisis response and digital strategy for multiple Fortune 500 and international clients.

Curry joins Subject Matter with more than a decade of experience in the communications and nonprofit sectors. Having most recently served as director of development for a national voter registration nonprofit during the 2018 midterm elections, Curry previously lived in New Orleans. There, he worked with several organizations focused on civic engagement, economic development, and entrepreneurship during the city’s rebuilding period following Hurricane Katrina. He is also a founding member of Emerging Philanthropists of New Orleans. Curry started his career at Peter A. Mayer Advertising, managing public relations campaigns and media outreach.

As part of the Client Services team, Sam works across teams at Subject Matter to develop strategies and relationships and ensure we deliver top-notch work to our clients every time. Sam began his tenure at Subject Matter as executive assistant to Paul Frick and Dan Sallick. Before joining Subject Matter, Sam worked as a regional field organizer for the Indiana Democratic Party during the 2018 midterm elections, where he operated three field offices across six rural counties in southern Indiana. He has also interned at the United Way of Oxford and Lafayette County in Mississippi and been a summer camp counselor for Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

A Capitol Hill veteran and experienced lobbyist, Cedric came to Subject Matter from H&R Block, where he led public policy development and lobbying outreach to Democrats. Before that, he spent five years as chief of staff to Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). Cedric has also been director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, leadership liaison and policy advisor for the House Ways and Means Committee, and senior advisor to former Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY).

Anna executes earned media outreach initiatives for Subject Matter clients. She began her tenure at Subject Matter as a Coordinator on the Media Team, where she developed coverage reports for our clients and coordinated studio needs. Anna worked in admissions at Georgetown University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences for four years, rising to assistant director of admissions during her time there. Before that, she spent six years teaching in Denver, Colorado and Lynden, Washington.

Natalie’s 15-year career in the House, the Senate and the executive branch makes her an ideal advocate to help achieve consensus on major issues. She worked for Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) for eight years, including as his chief of staff. Before becoming his chief, she worked on Gardner's energy and telecommunications portfolios. Prior to that, Natalie worked for the House Republican Study Committee, providing policy analysis on legislative issues. She has also worked on congressional affairs at the Department of Labor, where she handled international visa issues, and for former Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ).

She began her tenure at Subject Matter on the Media Team, where she coordinated media outreach and reporting for clients and helped with our Spanish media coverage and reporting. He began his career at National Review, where he was a news writer and blogger and then a Capitol Hill reporter. He moved on from journalism to become communications director for former Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN), overseeing external communications, including speeches, op-eds, media bookings, social media content and more.

Lauren supports partners Steve Elmendorf and Jimmy Ryan, coordinating the smooth running of our government relations team. Prior to joining the Subject Matter team, she supported the chief executive officer and president of Bedrock Industries, a private equity firm, from February 2017 through October 2018. Before that, she served from 2007 to 2016 at the Embassy of Australia working for the trade policy branch, military attaché, Australian army and the deputy ambassador. She previously worked in Australia for the federal government, private sector and nonprofit organizations.

Paul learned the value of integrated strategic communications from working on political campaigns and for members of the U.S House of Representatives. He was chief of staff to Rep. Paul Frick

Jimmy has more than 15 years of experience working in the government and federal affairs arena. His first exposure to Capitol Hill, while in law school, was on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and later with then-Chairman Chuck Schumer’s House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Criminal Justice. Jimmy rose to the position of chief counsel and floor policy director for Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), then the assistant Democratic leader and whip. Working for the Democratic whip, Jimmy was responsible for developing and coordinating the Democrats’ day-to-day Senate floor operations; managing whip counts on key votes; and advising other Democratic senators on Senate floor strategy and procedure. That experience proved invaluable at Citigroup, where he was a senior vice president and co-head for federal government affairs. Jimmy continues to use his broad experience to navigate complex legislative and regulatory issues on behalf of the nation’s leading businesses, and his deep expertise in developing meaningful public policy solutions is invaluable to our clients.

In 1999, Dan and Paul Frick founded Subject Matter legacy firm Home Front Communications, which grew into a fully integrated communications and advertising firm, before merging with lobbying firm Elmendorf | Ryan to form Subject Matter. Prior to that, Dan worked in political campaigns and government, serving as press secretary to House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt and as communications director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in the successful 1998 election cycle. He is the chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. A graduate of Rollins College, he was an NCAA All-American in tennis in 1991.

Dan Sallick

John has spent more than 30 years in Washington managing large teams and integrated communications programs within corporations, agencies and political campaigns. His corporate experience includes 10 years running communications and advertising at Fannie Mae (1991-2001) and five years as the executive vice president of communications at AOL (2002-2007). His decade of agency experience most recently includes serving as managing director of The Harbour Group (2008-2016). John has held senior positions in three presidential campaigns, including deputy press secretary to Reagan-Bush ’84, press secretary to Jack Kemp’s 1988 campaign and communications director to Dole-Kemp ‘96.

Known for both her analytical mind and engaging personality, Nicole is focused on honing Subject Matter's service to clients and fostering a workplace that is second to none. Prior to joining Subject Matter, Nicole spent 15 years at Burson-Marsteller, most recently serving as the U.S. chief operating officer for the global PR agency. Over the course of her career at Burson-Marsteller, Nicole worked with some of the world's foremost brands, directed grassroots advocacy campaigns and served in senior leadership within the firm’s largest region.

Carlos leads strategic initiatives for Subject Matter and its clients. He built the firm's first Digital Media Strategy unit and directed the Content and Media teams before moving into his current company-wide role. He is a frequent public speaker on the intersection of journalism, advertising and strategic communications. Previously, Carlos spearheaded the systematic development of niche-targeted online communities at USA Today. He is a recipient of the Teaching Excellence and Service Award for his curriculum development and instruction in Georgetown University's graduate journalism program. Carlos was recently appointed to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's Editorial Board of the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. He is fluent in Spanish.

Audrey Chang has more than two decades of experience in corporate communications, public affairs and issues management. She promotes client priorities through the full range of traditional and new media, while translating complex subject matters in consumer technology, life sciences and social policy, into stories that resonate and persuade. Audrey was most recently a managing director at The Harbour Group and previously worked at Burson-Marsteller and Ogilvy Public Relations. She has represented a variety of companies, ranging from Fortune 10 companies to startups, as well as major industry associations, coalitions and nationally-known nonprofits. Additionally, she has managed a number of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, with an eye toward highlighting corporate leadership and driving community engagement, particularly in the greater Washington, D.C., area.

Audrey Chang

Steve works to identify new strategies to develop and deliver content for our clients. Before joining the firm in 2014, he spent more than seven years as a top official at the U.S. Census Bureau, overseeing the two largest outreach and promotion campaigns ever undertaken by the federal government for the 2000 and 2010 Census. Steve’s campaigns were recognized for groundbreaking market research to shape successful multicultural outreach efforts. His 2010 campaign alone earned more than 150 awards and honors from the advertising, public relations and media industries. Dianne leads Subject Matter’s strategic planning efforts to design, analyze and optimize communications campaigns across clients. Working in collaboration with our campaign leads, she helps uncover key insights, facilitates creative briefs and helps guide the development of strategic plans, as well as managing research and media partners. She has extensive experience in full-service advertising work, with corporate and government clients. Before joining the firm, she was an account supervisor at Peter Mayer and a brand strategist at Trumpet, both in New Orleans.

Kevin leads the total creative function of the agency. His job is to inspire cross-disciplinary ideas that are on-strategy and well crafted — everything from traditional advertising and design to guerilla tactics and digital experiences. His true talent lies in building campaigns on a simple and memorable idea. Kevin's work engages audiences, generating results for clients and hardware for the agency. Ask what he's proudest of and he'll answer, “working with great people.” Before joining Subject Matter, Kevin honed his creative chops and leadership style as an associate creative director at SmithGifford.

John is a veteran journalist who brings a newsroom’s approach and perspective to Subject Matter’s diverse campaigns and content. He works with clients across an expansive menu of issues and needs, whether developing effective content strategy or directing executive communications. John specializes in storytelling that is authentic, informative, persuasive and actionable. He believes the best stories feed the mind and touch the heart. In his 20-year career at USA Today, John was page one editor and cover story editor, shaping the daily coverage across USA Today’s print and digital platforms. John also directed the op-ed page for nearly a decade while serving on the newspaper’s editorial board, thus helping to guide and inform wide-ranging debates on the issues of the day.

Joy leads Subject Matter's team of media specialists, overseeing the strategic development and tactical execution of media outreach initiatives. In more than a decade of work at the firm, she has built a deep understanding of what is required for successful media campaigns, from framing strategy to overseeing logistical details. Joy established Subject Matter's in-house broadcast production studio and has managed a range of productions.

Tim manages and schedules client projects across all departments to ensure their prompt and successful delivery. He handles the day-to-day management of company-wide systems and internal operations. Since joining the team, he has helped deliver solutions for the agency's largest clients, developing and guiding multi-channel campaigns for government agencies, private sector organizations, charities and nonprofits.

Timothy Ziembicki

Vice President, Operations

Stacey provides clients with a unique blend of public policy, public affairs and campaign experience. Her approach to solving complex problems is to turn conventional wisdom on its side in search of innovative solutions. She works with corporate and trade association clients to forge longstanding relationships and to build federal advocacy efforts that yield bipartisan results. Stacey served as chief of staff to former Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah), where she worked with House Leadership and senior Committee staff on a variety of legislative and political issues including energy, health care, trade and tax issues. Prior to her service in the House of Representatives, Stacey directed public affairs campaigns as a senior associate at APCO Worldwide and has private sector experience that contributed to her perspective and approach on Capitol Hill. A longtime political advisor, Stacey served as deputy political director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).

Whit came to Subject Matter with more than 13 years of experience in politics, lobbying and integrated advocacy. He has extensive relationships and a successful track record on a diversified range of issues in tax and financial services, commerce, labor, hospitality and travel. He works with clients to build consensus, craft multidimensional political strategies and execute integrated campaigns that matter. Before joining Subject Matter, Whit was vice president of government relations at the American Gaming Association. Prior to that, he served former Speaker of the House John Boehner as executive director of The Freedom Project/Team Boehner, which played a critical role in the GOP’s 2010 takeover of the U.S. House of Representatives. Whit was PAC director of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America in 2005, following service in several capacities at the National Republican Congressional Committee during the 2004 election cycle.

Andrew keeps projects — ranging from multi-faceted digital campaigns to rebranding efforts — running smoothly. Prior to joining the Subject Matter team, Andrew worked as an account executive at Zimmerman Advertising, where he managed daily client requests for the agency’s Mid-Atlantic Nissan account. He also advised clients on media strategy and implementation and served as the liaison between the client, media teams and agency headquarters.

Andrew Bako

Pat served as the lead staffer on the Senate Finance Committee for energy, transportation and excise taxes under committee chairman Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT). Most notably, he led the committee’s policy work in designing the energy tax portions of the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010; the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009; and the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008. As a Senate Finance Committee staff member for over a decade, he also gained broad experience in health care, serving as both professional staff on Medicare as well as acting chief for health care and entitlements, which include Medicare, Medicaid and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or TANF.

Before joining Subject Matter, she was a copywriter for Digitas Health in Philadelphia where she helped launch a new treatment for Shire Plc. Surin grew up in Germany and has lived and worked in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

Lauren manages the quality, organization and completeness of interactive projects for various clients. She began her tenure at Subject Matter on the Federal Services team, where she worked closely with clients like the United States Census Bureau and Ginnie Mae, crafting campaigns and searching for new business opportunities. Before joining Subject Matter, Lauren worked on localized integrated communications campaigns for private, public and non-profit clients in the financial services, health care, technology and transportation sectors at Burson-Marsteller. She has also served as a public affairs intern for the National Endowment for the Arts, a communications intern at the National Institute for Healthcare Management and a press fellow for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX).

Lauren oversees Subject Matter’s work to create customized websites and digital tools. Before joining Subject Matter, she directed interactive strategies at Case Foundation, where she led technical strategy, data aggregation and visualization and oversaw the redesign of the company and affiliate websites.

Before joining Subject Matter, Caitlin was the public relations and marketing manager for the Chelsea Piers Sports and Entertainment Complex in New York City. Her previous experience includes working with executive level staff to manage public relations and marketing materials for the Chelsea Piers complex. Caitlin’s expertise included assisting with community relations and outreach on online print, advertising, listings, social media presence, press releases and coordinating various media collateral.

He has produced and reported national, international, political, investigative and culture/feature stories.

Liz keeps client projects up-to-date, on-task and on budget for some of our top clients. Before joining Subject Matter, Liz served as senior associate to the U.S. Headquarters chief executive officer for Burson-Marsteller, a global public relations and communications firm. Prior to that, she was operations director for Gov. Martin O’Malley’s PAC and a congressional intern for Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi in 2013.

Patrick conceives and creates striking visual content that combines strategic thinking with engaging graphics and copy. He has over 10 years of experience collaborating with organizations large and small, including the National Geographic Museum, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Toyota, the United States Census Bureau, the Smithsonian and the U.S. Navy SEALs. His design portfolio encompasses exhibition design, advertising campaigns, website creation and visual identities.

Kevin Fenton provides top-level design direction, generates conceptual ideas for campaign messaging, and streamlines and facilitates the workflow of our Creative Team. Prior to joining Subject Matter, Kevin operated as a freelance design director for a variety of clients, including American Express, Beats by Dre, Marriott Hotels and Variety Magazine. In that role, he both wrote and designed treatments for commercials, television and feature film pitches, and established art direction, brand design and identity systems based on marketing briefs and client feedback. Before that, he was design director and lead designer for the Partners Trust and the Hypothesis Group, respectively.

Brian is responsible for operating our in-house studio, including cameras and lighting equipment for both live and taped studio productions. He also works closely with producers in the creation of various long- and short-form video packages. Before joining Subject Matter, he was a production assistant with the Frederick County (Maryland) Government Interagency Information Technologies.

Virginia promotes and pitches Spanish-language news stories in media markets across the country. Before joining Subject Matter, she was a Hispanic banking program manager for Capital One, where she managed the multicultural media and community relation strategies and branding for 144 branches.

Brittany combines her roles as a strategist, consultant and implementer to drive streamlined activities within the company based on the priorities set by executive leadership. She handles the day-to-day management of business operations and personnel that keep the company running at top speed. Prior to joining the Subject Matter team, Brittany worked for nine years in the health care industry.

Prior to joining Subject Matter, Elizabeth worked at the White House Writers Group, where she focused on third-party outreach and coalition building. She was also a reporter for the Orange County Register and an editorial fellow at USA Today.

Anne oversees strategic client accounts and helps lead campaign development and execution. She brings with her over 16 years of experience developing, implementing and managing strategic communications programs for public and private sector organizations. Prior to joining the Subject Matter team, Anne served as the senior director for communications at the Association of American Colleges and Universities, overseeing all aspects of the Association’s communications, marketing and publications. She has also led strategic client accounts and managed teams at several other strategic communications firms in Washington, D.C.

Stanley manages operational expenses at Subject Matter, including invoice submissions, check payments and the monitoring of company credit cards. He also assists in creating client invoices, audit requests, account analyses and deposits. Prior to joining the Subject Matter team, Stanley worked as a senior accountant at Global Impact, a nonprofit dedicated to helping the world’s most vulnerable people.

Tiffany manages large-scale projects that combine video, interactive and digital media elements. She produces video projects and assists in production and post-production. Before joining Subject Matter, Tiffany was an associate producer at Sirens Media and an associate producer at Discovery Studios.

Joon was variously employed as a mechanic, a journalist and a cook before he found a calling that let him to do what he does best: tell stories. Before joining Subject Matter, Joon spent eight years copywriting for Mid-Atlantic creative agencies, such as Barber Martin in Richmond, Virginia, and MGH in Baltimore. His previous work has helped brands like HCA, Mayo Clinic, nTelos, Southern States and the SPCA create inspiring narratives they could truly call their own.

Prior to that, he worked for The Mercury Group and Clark & Weinstock, following his years as senior advisor to Minority Whip and Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

Prior to joining Subject Matter, Barry served as director of federal government affairs at Microsoft Corporation. In that capacity, he managed the company's strategic, legislative and political relationships with Senate Democrats. Before joining Microsoft, Barry served as counsel to Sen. John F. Kerry (D-MA). He advised Kerry on his work before the Senate Small Business, Commerce and Finance Committees. Barry previously worked as an associate at Dewey Ballantine LLP (now Dewey LeBeouf) and served as a legislative and policy advocate with the AFL-CIO Transportation Trades Department by working on behalf of 35 affiliated labor organizations in the transportation and building trades sectors.

For 11 years, Eman covered youth homelessness, teen pregnancy and family violence for the National Clearinghouse on Families and Youth, a federal information service managed by JBS International, Inc. She’s also written for The Washington Post, USA Today, The Chronicle of Philanthropy, the Harvard Public Health Review and other print and online publications.

After that, Stanton served as the director of federal government relations for UST Public Affairs, Inc. She has been with Subject Matter since 2008. Here clients include MillerCoors, Churchill Downs and the American Gaming Association.
